How To Clean AirPods Case The Right Way

How To Clean AirPods Case The Right Way

Anytime you invest in the newest and latest technology, it becomes extremely important that you protect it at all times and clean it frequently. This is especially true with your AirPods case, which is bound to see a wide range of dirt, dust, ear wax, and much more in its lifetime.

The problem here is most people either don’t clean their AirPods frequently enough or don’t know how to clean AirPods case properly. Either way, your AirPods Pro case is doomed for failure as dirt, germs, and bacteria settle in and make themselves welcome.

Don’t worry, BlackBrook Case is here to ensure your AirPods case receives the treatment it deserves. Your investment means just as much to us as it does to you, so follow along as we teach you everything you need to know when it’s time to clean your AirPods case.

So, What's Needed To Clean An AirPods Case The Right Way?

Before you can start cleaning, you must first understand what you need to get the job done right -- that way, you’re prepared for the process that lies ahead. The good news is most AirPod owners will already have everything they need inside the home -- or at the nearest gas station, grocery store, or department store.

Let’s take a look at the most prominent tools you’ll need when cleaning your AirPods case:
  • Microfiber Cloth - use this for general cleaning, not so much targeted cleaning.
  • Cotton Swab - when you need to get into those cracks, nooks, and crevices, a cotton swab saves the day.
  • Isopropyl Alcohol - you should only use this when it’s needed, but it can definitely help with the stubborn dirt.
  • Distilled Water - if you need a little liquid to help remove dirt, distilled water is a good choice.
  • Toothbrush - the soft bristles on the toothbrush can help you remove the most stubborn grime.
  • Toothpick - when a cotton swab isn’t fulfilling your targeted cleaning, a toothpick provides pinpoint accuracy.
  • Tape - applying tape to the affected area can help lift and remove dirt, wax, hair, lint, and dust.
Once you have everything you need, you can properly start to clean your AirPods case and return it back to its original condition. Since not everyone knows how to clean AirPods case the right way, we’re going to walk you through it step-by-step.

The Proper Way To Clean An AirPods Case

While there’s nothing technical about cleaning your AirPods case the right way, it does take time and patience when hitting all those tiny cracks and crevices. That’s why we always recommend finding the best routine that works for you -- and stick to that routine frequently.

The first step is to clean the outside of the charging case, which requires a microfiber cloth, cotton swab, distilled water, and isopropyl alcohol. Let’s take a look:
  1. Take your microfiber cloth and give the case a quick wipe down. This will remove any of the easy-to-get dirt, dust, wax, and lint.
  2. If that didn’t remove everything from the outside of the case, feel free to add a TOUCH of distilled water or isopropyl alcohol to dampen the cloth -- but only a little bit.
  3. In the event you need something with pinpoint accuracy, bring out the cotton swab to rub free any remaining dirt, dust, wax, or lint. Use a touch of liquid, if and only if it’s needed.
Now that the outside of the case is back to its original state, you can start to focus on the inside of the case -- which is where a majority of the wax is found. Much like the outside of the case, you’ll need a microfiber cloth, cotton swab, isopropyl alcohol, and distilled water.
  1. Use your microfiber cloth to give the inside of the case a quick wipe down. Removing the easy stuff first allows you to get it out of the way early.
  2. With the cotton swab, start detailing the inside of your case where your AirPod ear tips charge to remove the hard-to-get germs, bacteria, and dirt.
  3. Once you have the charging port free of dirt and wax, shift your focus to the inside of the top of the case. Make sure those grooves are spotless!
  4. If the cotton swab isn’t working, feel free to switch to a toothpick for extreme accuracy. A toothbrush can also help when dirt is sticking to the case.
While it’s recommended to use distilled water or isopropyl alcohol when cleaning your case, you have to be extremely careful when applying it. Keep in mind, your case isn’t resistant to liquids. The last thing you want is liquid getting into the charging ports or AirPods themselves -- which will lead to bigger issues.

What If The Case Is Leather?

For those that want a unique and luxurious experience with their AirPods, investing in a leather case is always a good option. Of course, it’ll give you something else to clean when giving your AirPods case the makeover it needs. The good news is it won’t take much to clean it!

With a leather AirPods case, all you’ll need is a microfiber cloth, warm water, and a cotton swab. Gently wipe the case down with the microfiber cloth, using warm water when needed. You can also use the cotton swab for any dirt or grime that’s being stubborn.

For an extra luxurious touch, you can apply a leather care product to moisturize and condition the leather. Keep in mind, leather is nothing more than animal hide and it requires moisturizer just like your skin does! A leather conditioning product helps your leather stay pristine long-term.
