Would You Buy a Samsung Folding Phone?
The Samsung Galaxy X is the first foldable phone. Is the Samsung folding phone worth your next upgrade?
Thought the Galaxy Note 9 was cool?
Think again!
There's something even cooler coming your way - the Samsung Galaxy X Folding Phone.
While the conventional smartphone is known to be a rigid piece of glass that's limited to size, the Samsung folding phone unfolds into a tablet and refolds into a smaller phone. It's the only one of its kind!
But what else does this unique device offer? Here's everything you need to know about the folding Samsung phone.
Galaxy X Release Date and Price
Unfortunately the Galaxy X - or Galaxy F - won't be among the new phones coming out in 2018.
Samsung hasn't confirmed the release date or the price. However, it's expected to be available to the public in the first months of 2019.
Galaxy X Features and Specs
The Samsung folding phone comes with a range of likable features that'll set it far apart from other smartphones.
Screen and Display
The foldable smartphone offers 7.3 inches of OLED display when fully opened, and 4.5 inches OLED display when closed. In comparison, Apple's largest smartphone -the iPhone XS Max- is only 6.2 inches.
The screen is expected to have a resolution of QXGA+ 2152x1536p.
Operating System
This smartphone will run on Android Q - an operating system specially designed for foldable handsets.
With the state-of-the-art Infinity Flex technology, the phone can be folded and unfolded hundreds of thousands of times without any wear or tear.
The phone also comes with a multitasking interface that allows you to run up to three different apps at the same time on the larger screen.
Battery Life
If you're worried about the battery life, you'll be delighted to find out that the Samsung folding phone is expected to last as long as the current Galaxy phones, despite the fact that there are two active screens.
The latest Galaxy smartphones have an average battery life of about 11 hours.
Storage
This Samsung handset is expected to run on a 4GB or 6GB RAM, and have the usual 64GB and 128GB storage models. However, since Samsung is expected to launch 256GB smartphones in 2019, it'll be no surprise to see the Galaxy X having a 256GB model.
Camera
One of the features that may be compromised on this folding phone is the camera. Tweaking this feature into a foldable design isn't going to be easy.
However, Samsung has been making great camera phones over the last few years. So, we're hoping they'll figure something out and come up with a reliable camera.
Samsung Foldable Smartphone Competition
The Galaxy X may not be the only folding phone in 2019. Royole - a Chinese tech firm - is also planning to release a foldable handset called FlexPai.
The phone will feature a 7.8-inch AMOLED display which can fold up to 180 degrees outward.
