The leather industry in the United States today is valued at around $13 billion.
With electronic devices becoming a bigger part of our lives all the time, finding quality accessories has become a priority. Leather retailers have started to address this need with durable and attractive phone cases.
Read on as we show you which is the best type of leather for mobile accessories.
What Is the Best Type of Leather?
Most people have at least a rough idea about what leather is and how manufacturers make it. However, there are a number of different types and qualities of leather that you may not have known about.
You can divide these into four main classifications.
Full-Grain Leather
Full-grain leather is leather in its purest form. Consumers usually consider it the premium option.
We make our premium phone cases from full-grain leather.
Leather will be referred to as full-grain if it comes as a single piece of hide that has not been sanded or buffed to remove imperfections. This means that full-grain leather pieces will all have unique markings or coloring. No two pieces are the same.
If you want the best possible material for your mobile accessory, full-grain leather is the way to go.

Top Grain Leather
Top-grain leather is similar to full-grain leather. The difference is that manufacturers make corrections to top-grain leather, meaning that producers can make a large number of products look virtually identical.
Top-grain leather arguably has advantages over full-grain leather, as its imperfections are removed. However, full-grain is more sought after and is generally considered a better product.Â
The two are sometimes referred to collectively as grain leather.
Split Leather
During manufacturing, pieces of the leather must be split. The top part is a superior material and is used to make grain leather.
The inferior bottom part is used for split leather.Â
Split leather is versatile. Manufacturers can divide it into thinner pieces and use it for a variety of purposes.
It goes by a number of different names, including suede, coated leather, painted leather, and corrected leather.
Bonded Leather
Bonded leather is a product put together from pieces of scrap that are leftover from the production of grain or split leather.
Bonded leather is far less durable than grain leather. However, it is to be distinguished from faux leather, which is entirely synthetic.
When buying more affordable leather products, always take care to ensure that what you're getting is genuine leather.
