How to Clean Phone Cases: The Key Steps to Take

Did you know your phone case is dirtier than you think?

At times, it can be 10 times dirtier than a toilet seat! Think about how often you bring your phone close to your face every time you need to call someone or how you use your fingers on it and then unconsciously touch your lips!

That can sound disgusting but don’t fret! We’ve got a few steps below to help you keep your phone case nice and clean. Learn how to clean phone cases with our guide right here.

Clean Small Stains With Dish Soap

Take your dish soap and add two drops and stir the water and soap in a bowl or cup until they're mixed. Soak your soft cloth or soft-bristled toothbrush for at least a minute.

Use the cloth or toothbrush to remove the stains in a circular motion on the exterior and interior of your phone case. Wipe the tough-to-reach parts like the camera slots, charging portholes, and interior parts for last. You can also use a pencil eraser to get those tough-to-reach spots.

Clean Medium Stains With Isopropyl Alcohol

Isopropyl alcohol is not recommended for clear cases because it might change the color and damage your phone case. With a soft cloth, pour small amounts of alcohol onto it and scrub any remaining stains on your phone case.

When you're done with scrubbing the interior and exterior of your phone case, grab a dry soft cloth and wipe down your case. Give your phone case at least an hour to let dry before putting it back on your phone.

Cleaning Your Phone Cases According to Type

Don’t treat every phone case the same. Some require special cleaning methods compared to others. Silicon and rubber cases are the exceptions because you can clean these using the dish soap methods listed above.

Plastic Cases

Bleach is a good way to clean any clear plastic cases. To prevent irritation on your skin and lungs, clean your phone case in a ventilated area. Pour a small quantity of bleach with water and soak your phone case in the solution for five to ten minutes.

Scrub your case with a sponge or cloth to remove any stains. Rinse your phone case to remove the bleach solution and pat it down with a soft cloth. Dry it for half an hour and put it back on your phone.

Leather Cases

Leather is sensitive to many things like oil, sunlight, heat, and humidity. Using mild hand soap is a cheap alternative, but it may slightly change the color.

Apply the soap and water evenly into a cup or bowl. Dip a cloth into the solution and wring it until it's damp. Wipe down your case and dab a dry cloth to remove excess water. You can use a leather conditioner or mink oil to keep your genuine leather phone case in good condition.

Wood Cases

Using any liquid on wood phone cases can cause it to deteriorate. Mix in a small amount of vinegar in water and you can also add a drop of dish soap. Slightly wet a soft cloth and don't drench your case in too much liquid.

Soak up the excess water with a dry cloth and let it dry for one to two hours before putting it back on your phone.
