Apple’s New MacBook Pro 2026: M6 Power, Touchscreen Displays, and What’s Changed

Apple’s New MacBook Pro 2026: M6 Power, Touchscreen Displays, and What’s Changed

Apple shipped two MacBook Pro updates in two days, and they’re aimed at different buyers.

The new 14-inch MacBook Pro brings faster M6 performance, while redesigned 14-inch and 16-inch models introduce something Mac users have waited years for: a touchscreen.

Here's a closer look at what's new.

14-Inch MacBook Pro with M6: Faster and More Efficient

Announced October 27, the new 14-inch MacBook Pro focuses on performance rather than a major redesign.

Apple's M6 chip features a 12-core CPU and 12-core GPU, delivering up to 30% faster graphics and 25% faster AI performance compared to the M5. It also introduces Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6, and improved memory performance.

Battery life reaches up to 24 hours, while the familiar Liquid Retina XDR display, aluminum design, and selection of ports remain largely unchanged.

Starting at $1,999, the M6 MacBook Pro is available for pre-order October 28, with availability beginning November 6.

The Bigger News: MacBook Pro Finally Gets a Touchscreen

Announced October 28, Apple's redesigned 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro models mark a bigger change.

For the first time, MacBook Pro users can interact directly with the screen. Apple's new PROLED XDR display uses tandem OLED technology, offering deeper blacks, richer colors, and up to 2,000 nits of peak brightness.

The new touchscreen supports familiar gestures such as scrolling, pinching to zoom, and drawing directly on the display.

Apple has also introduced Dynamic Island to MacBook Pro, replacing the traditional notch with an interactive area for notifications, activities, and controls.

Other changes include a lighter design, slimmer screen borders, improved speakers, and a redesigned cooling system.

Interestingly, these premium touchscreen models use the M5 Pro and M5 Max chips rather than the new M6. The main upgrade here is the display and overall design, not a new processor generation.

Which MacBook Pro Should You Choose?

The 14-inch M6 MacBook Pro makes sense if you want faster everyday performance, better AI processing, and long battery life without paying for a redesigned display.

The PROLED XDR models are aimed at users who value touchscreen interaction, exceptional display quality, and a lighter design, particularly photographers, designers, and other creative professionals.

Both are available to pre-order, with availability starting November 6.
