2023's Latest iPhone Rumors: Everything We Know So Far

Are you still in love with the Apple iPhone 14 that you bought back in September 2022 when it was first released? If so, it's hard to blame you!

The iPhone 14 is the best iPhone to date. After months of iPhone 14 rumors leading up to the latest iPhone release date, it definitely lived up to the hype.

But guess what? Now that the iPhone 14 has been on the market for a few months, there are already new iPhone rumors starting to pop up all over the place. Even though it isn't expected to hit stores anytime soon, people are speculating about what the iPhone 15 might bring to the table.

As usual, Apple is keeping tight-lipped with regard to the iPhone 15. But that hasn't stopped the iPhone 15 rumors from spreading like wildfire online.

If you're struggling to keep up with them all, we're here to help. We've put together a collection of some of the rumors surrounding the new iPhone 15, including many of the iPhone specs related to it.

Keep reading to see what the iPhone 15 may have to offer when it drops.

Name

The iPhone 15 is going to be called, well, the iPhone 15. It doesn't sound like Apple is going to get too cute when it comes to naming the new iPhone.

But one thing worth noting is that the "Pro Max" version of the iPhone 15 might be going away. Rather than referring to it as the "Pro Max" version, some iPhone 15 rumors are suggesting it will now be called the "Ultra" version.

If Apple does decide to go in this direction, it would make perfect sense. The company did, after all, release the Apple Watch "Ultra" in 2022 to much fanfare. So it wouldn't come as a huge shock to see the "Pro Max" replaced by the "Ultra" by the time the iPhone 15 is released.

The Apple 15 "Ultra" would presumably be the most high-end iPhone 15 on the market if it comes to fruition. It would also likely be the most expensive option of the bunch when it comes to iPhone 15s.

Size

In recent years, Apple has tinkered with the size of the iPhone on a regular basis. They've made it both very small and very big and also hit most of the sizes in between these two extremes.

But when the iPhone 15 comes out, it appears as though it'll be the same size as the iPhone 14. Early iPhone 15 rumors suggest there will be two 6.1-inch iPhone 15s and two 6.7-inch iPhone 15s with two of them being standard iPhones and two being "Pro" models.

Whatever the case, we wouldn't expect to see Apple create any iPhone 15s that are shockingly small or large. It seems like the company is going to continue with what works by creating iPhone 15s that are right around the same sizes as iPhone 14s.

Design

The iPhone 15 is expected to have more than just sizes in common with the iPhone 14. It's also likely going to share a similar design to the iPhone 14, as it doesn't look like Apple is going to make any major changes to the design of the iPhone 15.

The only potential design change worth noting would be associated with the higher-end iPhone 15s. There is a decent chance that they may be made out of titanium as opposed to stainless steel. There is also a chance that they may have curved bezels that are thinner than the bezels found on the iPhone 14.

If these iPhone 15 rumors turned out to be true, it would give the more advanced iPhone 15 models an appearance similar to the latest Apple Watches. It would also make these models lighter than usual since titanium isn't as heavy as stainless steel.

Colors

Once upon a time, Apple used to release the iPhone in an array of different colors so that everyone could make their iPhones stand out. But as time has gone on, more and more people have started to stick their iPhones into cases, which has negated the need for Apple to release iPhones in a cornucopia of colors.

This trend will likely continue with the iPhone 15, which is only expected to be available in a small selection of colors. Black, gray, silver, and gold would all be our best guesses for which colors you'll be able to choose from when buying an iPhone 15. Apple might also throw one wild card color into the mix just to spice things up.

But no matter which color iPhone 15 you decide to go with, you can always make it look even better than it already will by putting it in a leather case. It'll keep your iPhone 15 safe and sound while also improving its general appearance.

Buttons

The power buttons and volume buttons on iPhone 15s could look and feel a whole lot different than the buttons used on past iPhones. That's because Apple is considering doing away with the mechanical buttons that they've always used for iPhones.

Instead of putting these mechanical buttons in place, Apple might be mulling over the idea of incorporating solid-state power and volume buttons on iPhones 15s. These buttons would be very similar to the home buttons that were used on the iPhone 7.

When you push down the solid-state power and volume buttons on the iPhone 15, it would feel just like you were pushing down on actual buttons. But there wouldn't be buttons on iPhone 15s at all. Instead, haptic feedback would simply make it feel as though you were pushing down on buttons on the iPhone 15.

If Apple does decide to go through with adding solid-state power and volume buttons, it would make a difference in which cases you could use on iPhone 15s. You would need to invest in special iPhone cases that could accommodate these buttons.

Face ID

There have been some calls for Apple to bring Touch ID back to the iPhone. Apple has replaced Touch ID with Face ID, but some iPhone fanatics have been clamoring for Touch ID to make its return.

As of right now, it doesn't sound like Apple has any interest in incorporating Touch ID into the mix when it releases the iPhone 15. In fact, some reports have revealed that Apple might not use Touch ID on iPhones ever again.

But something you should keep an eye on is that Apple is reportedly working on trying to come up with an under-display Face ID feature that will work even more effectively than the current Face ID feature does. It might not be available until the iPhone 6 is released, though (iPhone 16 rumors, anyone?!).

Chip

If you're interested in what's going to be happening inside the iPhone 15, there might be some exciting news concerning the chips that will be found in Apple's flagship phones. The iPhone 15 might be the first iPhone to feature chips that are built on a next-gen 3-nanometer node.

This might not mean much to the average iPhone user, but you're going to benefit from this in a big way if Apple decides to use these chips in the iPhone 15. These chips will be capable of improving the processing performance of the iPhone 15 by up to 15%. They'll also be able to reduce how much power the iPhone 15 consumes by up to 35%.

All of this should result in the iPhone 15 working faster than the iPhone 14 does without draining its battery. It'll be interesting to see if Apple ultimately chooses to roll these chips out with the iPhone 15 or if they're going to wait until later to do it with the iPhone 16 or even the iPhone 17.

RAM

Most people don't get as hung up on how much memory a smartphone has as they used to. But if you're someone who is interested in how much RAM you're going to get from a smartphone, you'll be happy to hear that Apple is thinking about adding RAM to at least some of the iPhone 15 models.

The higher-end iPhones 15s, in particular, might be getting a slight bump in how much RAM they'll have to offer. iPhone 14s only offered 6GB of RAM, but iPhone 15 might be able to provide 8GB of RAM.

If the iPhone 15 does come with 8GB of RAM, it'll improve its performance, especially if the iPhone 15 also has a new chip in it as expected. The iPhone 15 should be significantly faster than any other iPhone ever released if Apple is able to pull off these behind-the-scenes upgrades.

Port

European Union lawmakers passed a law in 2022 that will require all smartphone manufacturers to use USB-C ports in their phones by the time 2024 rolls around. This is great news for those who live in Europe since it means they won't have to worry about trying to figure out which chargers they'll need for their phones anymore.

It doesn't sound like a similar law is going to be passed in the U.S. anytime soon. But that doesn't mean that this law isn't going to affect those Americans interested in buying iPhones from now on.

The thought is that, because Apple is going to need to start building iPhones for its European customers that contain USB-C ports, they might go ahead and start working USB-C ports into all their iPhones, including those sold in the U.S. This could lead to USB-C ports being included in the iPhone 15.

In the short term, this would mean you would need to scrap your old iPhone chargers and buy new ones. But it would also mean that it would be easier to find chargers moving forward since you wouldn't be restricted to only buying the iPhone chargers that are used today.

Apple hasn't indicated when or even if they're going to make the change to all USB-C ports. But this switch could be coming as soon as when the iPhone 15 is released.

Data Transfer Speeds

If Apple decides to include USB-C ports in the iPhone 15 (and, again, this is still a big "if"!), it could lead to the new iPhone providing much faster data transfer speeds than before. The iPhone 15 could conceivably transfer up to 20GB per second, which would make its data transfer speeds significantly faster than the speeds offered by the iPhone 14.

Before you get too excited about this, though, there are going to be lots of different factors at play that will affect the final data transfer speeds for the iPhone 15. You might want to wait until Apple reveals if there will be USB-C ports used in iPhone 15s prior to celebrating this iPhone 15 rumor too much.

Camera Lens

Some people have complained about the lack of design changes made to the iPhone in recent years. Since Apple has gotten into the habit of releasing a new iPhone every fall, they've gotten away from making sweeping changes to the designs of most iPhones.

But one thing that Apple is always working on is the camera lens used in its iPhones. If nothing else, Apple is going to make sure that people are satisfied with what the camera lenses in the latest iPhones can do.

It doesn't look like the iPhone 15 will be any different, as Apple seems poised to make some dramatic improvements to the camera lenses used in the new iPhone. They're apparently going to outfit some of the new iPhone models with what's called "periscope" telephoto lens technology.

This technology would provide iPhone 15 users with zoom capabilities that they couldn't have dreamed of as recently as a few years ago. Some Samsung smartphones already use this technology, which allows people to utilize up to 10x optical zoom and up to 100x digital zoom.

Apple hasn't said where the iPhone 15's zoom capabilities might sit just yet. But the technology that's incorporated into the iPhone 15's camera lens should be next level.

It also might only be available on some of the higher-end iPhone models. So if you're interested in an advanced camera lens, you might want to start squirreling away a little extra money so that you can afford to buy the biggest and best iPhone 15.

Camera Sensors

Apple appears to be working on making improvements to more than just the camera lenses that will be used in the iPhone 15. They also seem to be interested in improving the camera sensors that will be put into the new iPhone.

More specifically, some iPhone 15 rumors have suggested that Apple might be getting ready to use Sony image sensors in the new iPhone that will be capable of capturing more light when you use your phone to snap photos. This could conceivably cut down on the number of both overexposed and underexposed photos that you take.

If you take a lot of photos without strong backlighting, the new sensors found in the iPhone 15 might help with this problem. It's just one more way in which Apple is working to change the way that you take photos when you pull your phone out.

Once again, these new sensors might only show up in some of the higher-end iPhone 15 models. But it would still be worth monitoring how Apple handles this situation since they might end up sticking these sensors in all iPhone 15s before everything is all said and done.

WiFi Connectivity

If you buy one of the standard iPhone 15s, you're probably still going to be getting treated to WiFi 6. This won't be a bad thing for most iPhone 15 users. But if you're concerned about WiFi connectivity, you might want to upgrade to a higher-end iPhone 15 to get WiFi 6E.

What makes WiFi 6E better than standard WiFi 6? Well, there are a few things that will set it apart and make it noticeably different. Here are some of the best features of using WiFi 6E:

  • Increased bandwidth
  • Improved connectivity speeds
  • Reduced latency
  • Better capacity

You'll also find that WiFi 6E will provide support for whole home gigabit coverage. It'll set you up with enough bandwidth to support the data streams that must be used for VR experiences online as well.

Again, you're likely not going to care whether your iPhone 15 has WiFi 6 or WiFi 6E if you're a casual smartphone user. But if you're going to be using an iPhone 15 for work or if you know you're going to need to get great performance out of it, WiFi 6E will be the better choice for you.

Price

Price is always a sticking point whenever people start discussing iPhone rumors. It doesn't matter if they're talking about iPhone 13 rumors, iPhone 14 rumors, or iPhone 15 rumors. After hearing about the rumors tied to a particular iPhone, they want to know, "How much is all this going to cost?!"

Apple has actually managed to keep the starting prices for iPhones pretty consistent over the course of the last few years. They've also worked to cut the prices of iPhones down to size after releasing them to make them more affordable for those interested in buying them.

But there is already some speculation suggesting that the iPhone 15 might be more expensive than the last couple of iPhones. The higher-end iPhone 15s could come in at well over $1,000.

Even still, this will be a small price to pay for those who want all of the advanced features that we've laid out here today. But it might prevent some people interested in, say, the iPhone 15's "periscope" telephoto lens technology from being able to get access to it.

Release Date

Just like the iPhone 14 rumors that came before them, a lot of the iPhone 15 rumors that are listed here won't turn out to be true. That's part of the fun of speculating about what Apple is going to do next. You never really know exactly which tricks the company is going to have up its sleeves.

There is, however, one iPhone 15 rumor that we feel pretty confident in confirming. We would say that it's going to be a safe bet that Apple will release the iPhone 15 at some point in September 2023.

Why do we feel so confident in this? Well, Apple has shown time and time again that September is its preferred month for putting out new iPhones. As a result, many people have come to expect Apple to release iPhones at the start of the fall and would be disappointed if the company decided not to do it.

There may very well come a time when Apple decides to scale things back and stop releasing new iPhones every single September. But with the iPhone 15 rumors already swirling around, it would be surprising to see them choose 2023 to take the year off.

It's clear that Apple is already starting to fine-tune elements of the iPhone 15, and quite frankly, it wouldn't be too shocking at all to start to see some iPhone 16 rumors coming out! Apple is always keeping one eye firmly on the future and looking to take each of their iPhones to the next level as only they can.
