As the Launch Draws Near: Your Guide to the Latest iPhone14 Rumors

iphone 14 rumors

Did you know that over 2.2 billion iPhones have been sold since they first hit the market? That means almost one-third of the entire world population has iPhones!

And their popularity has only grown over the years. With constant new releases of different iPhones, we're always kept on our toes anticipating what is coming next. And every single time there is a new release, there is something better that is released with it, whether it is faster processing, a better camera, or a larger screen.

This time? The iPhone 14 is coming to the scene better than ever! And you may have heard the iPhone 14 rumors...

With the iPhone 13 being better than any of the other models, what could this one possibly have that the 13 doesn't?

In this guide, we'll cover the iPhone 14 rumors that have hit the scene for Apple's newest product.

Size of iPhone 14

The size of the phone coming out is going to look a bit different than the options that Apple had for the iPhone 13. The 13 came in options of 5.4 inches and 6.1 inches.

The iPhone 14 is going to come in options of 6.1 and 6.7 inches. The 6.1-inch phone will be for the regular iPhone 14 as well the iPhone 14 Pro. The iPhone 14 Max and iPhone 14 Pro Max will be 6.7 inches.

Due to the unpopularity of the iPhone 13 in the 5.4-inch size, that will not be an option for the new iPhone 14 launch.

So you have two options for the size of the iPhone 14. You can go with the normal size of the 6.1-inch display which is what the iPhone 13 Pro is, or you can upgrade to an even larger size this time!

Body Design of the iPhone 14

There is not going to be much of a design change for the iPhone 14 in comparison to the iPhone 13. The design is already sleek so many changes do not need to be made. Rumor has it that the 13 and the 14 will be identical.

However, the iPhone 14 Pro is rumored to get rid of the notch on the front that is for the facial recognition. Instead, it will be much smaller and sleeker than what is on the 13 and the ones before that as well. However, this may only be the case for the Pro and not any of the other iPhone 14 phones.

Since the iPhone 14 is going to be the cheaper option than the iPhone 14 Pro or Pro Max, this one will not see as many changes as the Pro or the Pro Max.

Facial Recognition

While there will be a smaller notch on the iPhone 14, there will still be the ability to use facial recognition to log into your phone, save passwords, and much more.

The hope is to get rid of the notch to be a much smaller front-facing camera that allows for facial recognition. It should supposedly follow the Android phone design with a hole-punch style on the front. However, rumors are still changing constantly.

Some are saying that rather than just a single hole-punch cutout, Apple is working on a design that will incorporate both a small notch out and the circular hole-punch cutout. The small notch would be the face ID section while the hole would house the camera.

ProMotion Display

ProMotion Displays are displays that can change the refresh rate depending on what you are doing on your phone. Apple has been using ProMotion Display on a few different products that they have, but not on the iPhones yet. However, rumor has it that they are going to use this technology on the iPhone 14 Pro models.

Most likely, the 120Hz refresh rates will remain an iPhone 14 Pro feature only. Always-on display technology will also most likely just be an iPhone 14 Pro and an iPhone 14 Pro Max feature.

However, there are some claims that this feature will be on every single iPhone 14 option out there. For this one, we'll have to wait and see!

Colors of the iPhone 14

Most of the color options for the iPhone 14 will remain the same as the iPhone 13 color options. However, rumor has it that there will be an option for the color purple. Whether it is a light purple or a dark purple, we are not sure.

Usually the same colors are offered for the new phones, but in different shades, so that is most likely what we will see on the iPhone 14 launch.

Here are a few other suspected coloring options.

The iPhone 14 and 14 Max should be available in the following colors:

  • black
  • white
  • red
  • blue
  • purple

However, the iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max may be available in different colors such as:

  • graphite
  • gold
  • silver
  • purple

With so many different color options, you'll have to choose between going with the Pro or the regular iPhone 14 based on color and all of the other features.

Camera Options and Upgrades Coming with the iPhone 14 Release

As always, the camera on the iPhone will improve with the release of the iPhone 14. The camera on the iPhone 13 already is unparalleled when compared with an actual camera, so we can't wait to see what the iPhone 14 has when it comes to the camera's capabilities.

Here's what we know, though.

On the iPhone 13, the phone had:

  • a 12 megapixel wide camera with focus pixels
  • a 12 megapixel ultra-wide camera with an f-stop of 2.4 aperture
  • the front-facing camera had an f-stop of 2.4 aperture as well

The iPhone 14 and the iPhone 14 Max take that a step further with an even better camera. Here are some of the specs that the 14 will have:

  • a 12 megapixel wide camera with focus pixels
  • a 12 megapizel ultra-wide camera with an f-stop of 1.8 aperture and autofocus options
  • the front-facing camera will have an f-stop of 1.9 aperture

However, there are rumors that the Pro has an even better camera. The iPhone 14 Pro will have 48 megapixel cameras. If you are looking to take better photos or are already a photographer, this may be the route you want to go with the new iPhone 14.

But what else will it have?

The Pros

So what will the iPhone 14 Pro features look like? Here's a comparison with what the iPhone 13 Pro had versus what the 14 is expected to have.

The iPhone 13 Pro and Pro Max had:

  • a 12-megapixel Wide camera with focus pixels
  • 6-element Telephoto lens
  • 4K video recording or HD recording
  • Front-facing camera with Ć’/2.2 aperture

All of those specs are amazing, so what more could the iPhone 14 have? Here is what to expect:

  • 48-megapixel Wide camera with focus pixels and pixel binning
  • 7-element Telephoto lens
  • 8K video recording
  • Front-facing camera with Ć’/1.9 aperture and autofocus

Whether you get the Pro, the Max, or the regular iPhone 14, you can expect the front-facing camera to be much better than the iPhone 13 or any other previous models. This is definitely an expensive upgrade on the phone, so it is not going to be a cheap model - that's something we know for sure!

With the addition of the new camera features on the Pro, the cameras on the back will also be much larger than the ones on the 13. You can expect to see a large increase in the size of the lenses on the phone.

Benefits of a Smaller Aperture and Autofocus on the New iPhone

So why does it matter that the new iPhone 14 camera has a smaller aperture?

The smaller aperture allows more light to pass through the lens and reach the sensor of the camera on the 14. This means that the image quality will be much better. This is especially helpful for increasing the depth of field on portrait photos on the iPhone.

The autofocus on the front-facing camera is also a great upgrade because it will make for better video calls and front-facing video experiences.

Other iPhone 14 Release Speculations

In addition to the differences in the camera, the colors of the phones, and the other upgrades, there are even more changes coming! Here are just a few of the changes we know about.

Again, while we have heard about these rumors, we are not sure if they will release with the 14 or a later design.

Titanium Alloy Chassis Design

Although this is not confirmed, titanium alloy chassis design has been used on other Apple products like the Apple watch. If they do choose to use it for the phone, this would be the first iPhone that has this material.

But why is this so important?

Titanium is more scratch resistant and it's stronger than both steel and aluminum. It is also corrosion-resistant. That means your iPhone 14 will stay in much better shape than it could with another material!

New Cooling Systems for the iPhone 14

To prevent any necessary overheating or slow down of the iPhone 14 due to lack of cooling, the high-end iPhone models like the Pro are expected to adopt a vapor chamber thermal. This should help with the iPhone models that have stronger computing power and faster 5G speeds. With these increase in technologies, there needs to be something to keep the phone cool at the same time.

However, this is not new technology. Samsung, Razer, and LG already use vapor chamber cooling technology to cool their tech gadgets and phones when they are in high-stress environments.

While this may not happen right away upon the iPhone 14 launch date, it is suspected that Apple will hop on this new technology some time soon to help with the cooling of the phones.

Changes to the Lightning Port on the Phone

There have been rumors that Apple wants to remove the Lightning port on the iPhone so that there is a portless design for charging. Instead, wireless chargers would have to be used.

Whether or not this will happen in 2022, there will still be models of the iPhone that come out with lightning ports so that some people don't have to make that switch.

Car Crash Detection

Apple is working on coming out with a new technology feature for the iPhone that can detect a car crash. This will occur when the phone uses sensors that can measure a spike in gravitational force.

When it measures this, the iPhone would dial emergency services, much like the Apple Watch does if it detects a fall.

While this is planned for release in 2022, it is unknown if this will be a new feature on the iPhone 14 or if it will be released at a later date.

Sattelite Connectivity for Emergency Situations

If this rumor is true, you would be able to text in situations when you don't even have service. How cool is that!?

Apple is working on satellite connectivity that would let iPhone users text in emergency situations. The idea of satellite connectivity is a new wave for the future of cell phones, and Apple is getting behind it early.

Tech Features of the New iPhone 14

There can't be a new iPhone without the introduction of at least a few new technical specs on the phone. And the iPhone 14 is no exception. Here are a few new tech specs to expect on the iPhone 14 release.

A16 Chip

Usually, new models of the iPhone will have an updated A-series chip. These chips are what help with the speed and efficiency of the iPhone.

However, this time around, there is a rumor that Apple will only be putting in a new chip into the iPhone 14 Pro models.

So what does that mean for the normal iPhone 14 models? They will continue to use the same A15 Bionic that's in the iPhone 13 models. This is one of the biggest differences that will come between the iPhone 14 and the iPhone 14 Pro models.

However, even with a new A16 chip, there is speculation that this is only a minor upgrade over the A15 chip that is already being used in the iPhone 13. They both use the same N5P process, which means there cannot be truly too many improvements from one to the next.

With that said, most of the new N3 and N4P processes will not be available until 2023, so a lot of these changes will not be made at first.

While the iPhone 14 models may not get a new chip, they will be faster than the 13 and any of the other iPhone models because of an updated cellular modem, a new internal design, and other updates that could offer a faster performance.

RAM

Both models of the iPhone 14 (both the regular and the Pro) will feature 6GB RAM. This is the same amount of RAM that is in the iPhone 13 Pro models, so nothing is changing with the RAM.

GB

While the iPhone 13 storage size started at 128 GB, there is a rumor that the iPhone 14 will not offer that size. Instead, sizes will start at 256 GB of storage.

There is also an entirely new size of GB that the phone offers. When the iPhone 13 Pro models came out, Apple added a new 1TB storage tier. Rumor has it that with the iPhone 14 upgrade, Apple may increase that even further to 2TB.

WiFi

The iPhone 14 is expected to feature WiFi 6E connectivity. This is high-speed wireless transmission necessary for AR and VR experiences, which have become increasingly popular over the last couple of years.

WiFi 6E takes advantage of an increase in bandwidth and the decrease in interference, while also offering the performance boost and low latency provided by the WiFi 6 specification.

No SIM Spot

Apple may be switching to the eSIM-only design and getting rid of the physical SIM spot on the outside of the phone.

While Apple did release a few models without a nano-SIM on the iPhone 14, this would be a new addition to the iPhone 14 release.

But what is the benefit of getting rid of this? An eSIM allows for cellular plans to be added to a device without using a nano-SIM. However, not all countries have this, so some will still need to be made with a SIM spot in those countries specifically.

Future Speculations for the iPhone

While these are all features that are rumored to be a part of the iPhone 14 release, what is next after this? Here are a few more rumors that are circulating.

All-Screen Smartphone

There is speculation that Apple's first all-screen smartphone will come out with the iPhone 16 in 2024. That means there would be no front-facing camera or face ID slot that you would see. Instead, they would be under the phone itself behind the screen.

USB-C

There is a rumor that iPhones will start to trend toward a USB-C outlet rather than a lightning port cable. This would be the new default charging method for iPhones.

In-House Modem Chips

Apple is working on creating its own modem chips that are designed in-house, which will allow Apple to reduce its reliance on modem chip vendors.

They may even be able to switch to their own 56 modems in early 2023 if things go according to plan.

Foldable Phone

Much like other companies like Samsung is doing, Apple may come out with its first foldable phone design.

This is just a rumor at the moment, but they would do this to keep up with the new and trending designs at other smartphone companies!

When Is the iPhone 14 Supposed to Hit the Market?

With all of these rumors out there about the iPhone 14 launch, you probably want to know when all of these upgrades are going to be available with the new phone launch.

The rumor has it that the iPhone 14 will be coming out on September 7. While that is the case, they may not be on sale until September 16. Pre-orders should begin around September 9th after the launch event.

Stay tuned to see if it launches then!

How Much Will the iPhone 14 Cost?

While there is no one that truly knows how much the iPhone 14 will cost when it hits the market, there are, of course, speculations on the cost!

There is an expected increase in price from the iPhone 13 to the iPhone 14 of about $100. That means that the iPhone 14 Pro will be around $1,099 and the iPhone Pro Max could reach $1,199 on the market.

If you don't feel the need to get the Pro or the Max, you are looking at around $800 for the standard iPhone 14.

Typically, you can go through a price plan through your wireless provider to go on a payment plan rather than paying all of that upfront. Remember, there are typically trade-in options as well, so it is smart to keep an eye on those as the release date is coming out here shortly!

iPhone 14 Rumors

While these are all supposedly iPhone 14 rumors, in the past, most of the rumors about iPhone releases are true. And even if they do not come out at first in 2022, many of the newer iPhone 14 models that come out in 2023 may include some of the other features that Apple is working on.

But here's what we do know.

We know there will be a better camera on the iPhone 14 Pro as well as a larger size option with the Max. There will be faster processing as well as a larger storage capacity. There will be a variety of colors as well, but what those colors are exactly - that's what we're not sure about.
